i think everything that gilles peterson does is pretty much incredible... so i found this track via his annual all winners chart. i pretty much follow everything he mentions - he's got impeccable taste. anyway, this remix of mos def's umi says is done by no other than zero 7. a very wise and fantastic pick, mr. peterson.
again, i'd like to believe this track was made just for me.
i told jason the other day that i am going to start believing that certain tracks were produced with me in mind - much like the nicolay remix of jill scott's golden, i am throwing this mos track via zero 7 in that pile.
yeah, i know that sounds a bit juvenile, but when it comes music - i am quite the egoist.
i am totally kidding.
well, hmm... not really.
i've always been a super fan of quincy jones. many thanks to my family actually... my two older brothers love him and so did my dad. so i was influenced from a young age to appreciate his songs. this particular one has been a favorite of mine for many years. i know it's a tad cheesy, but tying into the whole new year's thing - it's quite perfect. and anyone that knows me well will know that i'm a big softie and as such i have a penchant for uplifting-let's-make-the-world-a-better-place! songs... hee hee. and after spending an entire day with mom yesterday and taking her to see 'the pursuit of happyness' - i had to fold and gave in... gave into the cheese. i love it.
yay quincy and 2007! (and tevin campbell)
I've never been a big fan of Jay-Z. Maybe a few of his instrumentals a few years back... but ever since my little brother has been playing Reasonable Doubt - I've gotten a little curious. So... this track pulled me into my bro's room today as he had it playing... and i felt compelled to share it on vox. It's pretty damn good...
[i can feel a jason countermeasure coming on]
* translates to "hot shat" according to my lil bro. i cannot seem to keep up with hip young lingo these days.
i'm dedicating this track to jason and i.
we heard this for the first time on kcrw's chocolate city en route to los angeles from san diego. yesterday, jason, felicia and i paid a visit to amoeba and he found this. (i have to give credit to JT for discovering it in the store first). since its pretty much inevitable that one of us will eventually upload it on vox -- i'd like to share it with our vox friends and have it kick off our 3 day weekend. welcome it nicely with a little bit of miss watley via mark de clive.
i am enjoying my last weekend of vacation. i was supposed to leave for sedona, az this morning to ring in the new year by the red rocks with my family. however, my little brother is ill - so i will be in los angeles for nye.
well, i've gotten used to laying in bed for most of my mornings during vacation. i'm going to miss listening to music like this (past 7:00am) in my PJs tucked nicely in bed with my laptop.
What is one of your addictions?

i took this photo over the summer.. in the company of one of my best friends. we were at little tokyo in downtown los angeles. we were obviously way too excited over the crazy variety of pocky this market had in stock. and we took advantage of this. this photo is evident of our addiction...
pocky runs through my veins. (especially green tea and kurogoma/black sesame)
