Last weekend, Anna and I (through the generosity and unfortunate illness of her friend, Hillary) scored tickets to The Lemonheads @ The Troubadour. We were adventuring earlier that day in Little Tokyo, but despite feeling tired upon arriving her place - she rallied and kept us going.
I'm so happy she did that as we discovered this awesome band from Holland.
(and I am totally hooked on this song! Anna has her favorite song of theirs too called Love You More)
Banana and I will be rocking it out live to Sea and Cake this coming Sunday. I cannot wait. Seriously.
This is currently my favorite S+C song. I listen to it at least ten times daily. No joke.
Below is my letter to Mr. Prekop:
Dear Sam,
Why is your voice so amazing? You just kill every time. I heart you. your songs. so. damn. much. I think of
nothing but great things when I listen to it all.
P.S. - I am seriously contemplating catching both your shows. Saturday (solo) and Sunday with my BFF, hurray!
With love,
Melle
Tonight I am off to San Francisco for the weekend with Anna, Felicia and Carolline. We are renting a luxury car, we are staying at a fancy hotel, we will be drinking yummy drinks and eating delicious food. By 11pm tomorrow night - I am almost certain we will be on some dancefloor working things out ... proper.
Bay area, here we come.
A nice day. Wet. Full. Happy...
I figure its only fitting to share a song from today's Amoeba finds. Earlier, my basket was full of jazz selections - from Joao Gilberto in Tokyo to A Nina Simone Boxset.. so much good stuff I had a hard time choosing but with the help of JT I came home with this... and I am very happy with it.
It's almost 11pm... and the night feels young now -I was a little tired after dinner... but Lester Young and company are putting me in the mood. I love how jazz collaborations translates it's energy so well to its listener. Maybe I'll call my friends again. :)
Have a great Saturday everyone...
Needless to say, I've been listening to Lemon Jelly so much lately. They always make an appearance on any of my travel playlists. It just seems fitting to space out to them... they make music for that reason, I believe.
In honor of my first time as audience to the lead singer of Pinback, Rob Crow, yesterday - I give you my favorite Pinback song. Ever.
Yesterday, Bananers and I drove down the coast in her mini Coop ... first stop at San Juan Capistrano for the best brunch spot (Ramos House Cafe), off to Dana Point, San Clemente, finally hitting Encinitas for Lou's Records. (where Rob played a 45 min- almost hour set)
It was a great day indeed. And I was happy to discover that Rob sounds exactly like does in his recordings. Wicked. The man is super funny and all sorts of talented.
Pictures to follow...
we enjoyed live performances, amazing animal exhibits ...and one memorable laugh attack at the dinosaur hall brought on by t-rex's babyarms. it was a good time. trust me.
this song by the detroit experiment (a carl craig production via rope-a-dope records) is my favorite song off the album. rope-a-dope launched an experiment series which was a jazz heavy collaboration of textured techno re-interpretations and jam sessions. the series included detroit and philadelphia( which was overseen by the roots' ?uestlove and uri caine.) and later a remix album of the philadelphia experiment by king britt..
anyway, think twice seems like an appropriate track to accompany our own night at the museum. mr. jason t brought up the idea of this being a re-interpretation of donald byrd's think twice... i'll leave that open for him to answer.
enjoy...
