Jason's Flashback Friday track In Every Way by Reverie just kicked things off for today. Gilles is impeccable with his music selection.. hands down. Best music selector on the planet.
So trying to continue in that same vein - I know Gilles is a big fan of Vikter. I used to not be. Now? Well... let's just say I've matured a little with my music appreciation capabilities and I am now able to separate the "asshole" artist behavior from his/her art. The end product and its ability to stir up emotions in me and not what emotions stirred the artist to create it is far more valuable and important in my eyes.
With that...here's some 2-stepish, broken beat joint from the Vikter. It's got a beat that's a wee bit nasty/dirty - that punchy rhythm. But yknow... a nice girl needs that kind of punch every once in a while. But I wouldn't take it there. :)

After many an Irish coffee @ the Buena Vista with Jason and Felicia last Saturday... we found ourselves walking through North Beach and we stumbled into this...
About a month or so ago, Jason and I were driving back home from an Amoeba run when we started discussing lastfm.com recommendations. He mentioned for that month/week lastfm kept plugging artist, Just Jack, to him. He then posted two tracks by Lamb & Just Jack. I liked it at first listen - but didn't bother repeating as I kept it filed away so that I could have enough time to dig through his tracks. I finally gave Jack a proper listen today and I absolutely fell for this song. I can't stop listening to it now.

To compliment a lovely post by MisterJT on a new track by Migs called 'So Far'. Plus lately it seems like we've been hit with a bit of Naked Music/deep house/Lisa Shaw fever. Though this does not have Lisa vocals - its still a favorite since its Blue Six.
Every time I've heard this version of Love Yourself (Basti and Vincenso remix) played at a party... I start dancing with my eyes closed and I am in it. It is just my cup of deep/soulful house tea.
It's instant happy for me.. definitely the best track on Nude Tempo.

This post was inspired by a twitter message I received from Jason earlier today - stating that he was listening to Amerie and really loved the track that was playing - as if it were his first time hearing it. I haven't had that experience in a while. And so I wanted to share this gem with him and all you lovely VOXers... a little Amerie with a fave, 9th Wonder. It's quite obvious that this was pulled from a mixtape. I have a small collection of mixtapes I bought at Fat Beats in NYC over the last couple of years... I will try to upload more tracks from those mixes later. And possibly share more gems like this in the future...

Jason featured well-respected hip hop female lyricist, Bahamadia on a post this morning. As such, I filtered through my iTunes and picked up a few songs that I wanted to share in conjunction with his post. I must say she came up on my iTunes with songs done with quite a few of my favorites. (the Herbaliser, Gangstarr, Mark Farina, and Erykah Badu) Here are two fantastic tracks that features this amazing female MC. Her release on Good Vibe recordings pulled lukewarm ratings in 2000 - but true fans have stayed devoted. Thanks Jason for pulling her into the mix again. I am looking forward to listening to BB Queen on my drive to work tomorrow.
I just got in from a lovely and full day with my buddies, Fel, Bananers and Mister JT. We kicked off fairly early with brunch at Magnolia Cafe. Afterwards we headed off to Hollywood to Amoeba Records. Spending a good hour or so digging through and finding new gems to add to our collections. We then proceeded to head back to the valley to catch a late matinee show of "Smokin' Aces"... which I enjoyed quite a bit. And we finally ate a light dinner at Panera Cafe.
A nice day. Wet. Full. Happy...
I figure its only fitting to share a song from today's Amoeba finds. Earlier, my basket was full of jazz selections - from Joao Gilberto in Tokyo to A Nina Simone Boxset.. so much good stuff I had a hard time choosing but with the help of JT I came home with this... and I am very happy with it.
It's almost 11pm... and the night feels young now -I was a little tired after dinner... but Lester Young and company are putting me in the mood. I love how jazz collaborations translates it's energy so well to its listener. Maybe I'll call my friends again. :)

i had an enjoyable and relaxing weekend with my lovely best friends - anna, jason and felicia... kicked off by a visit to the natural history museum for first fridays. we dropped in to support the life force trio.
we enjoyed live performances, amazing animal exhibits ...and one memorable laugh attack at the dinosaur hall brought on by t-rex's babyarms. it was a good time. trust me.
this song by the detroit experiment (a carl craig production via rope-a-dope records) is my favorite song off the album. rope-a-dope launched an experiment series which was a jazz heavy collaboration of textured techno re-interpretations and jam sessions. the series included detroit and philadelphia( which was overseen by the roots' ?uestlove and uri caine.) and later a remix album of the philadelphia experiment by king britt..
anyway, think twice seems like an appropriate track to accompany our own night at the museum. mr. jason t brought up the idea of this being a re-interpretation of donald byrd's think twice... i'll leave that open for him to answer.
