Lavender Diamond is a local L.A. band signed under Matador Records. (I heart you, Matador. You can do no wrong)
Many thanks to my buddy, Mau, for tuning me into Goldspot. He invited me to their show about a year or so ago.. and I never made it. A total shame - as I absolutely love them now. Little did he know that the evening I missed their gig - I did my own research, got a few of their songs... now I've been happy owner of Tally of the Yes Men for a little over a year.
Gratzi Brown Cow!
He tells me, "Dude, they are sooo awesome. I swear, they're gonna blow up in a few weeks!"
And "blow up" they did. But not in your MTV's TRL top 10 kind of way, but enough to gain popularity in Los Angeles and throughout most of the west coast.
What I find quite interesting about SFR is the lead singer's musical background. Apparently he was trained in classical music.. and I believe his father was some great violinist or something to that effect. Its obvious in most of his songs... he's got very addictive riffs and melodies -- and of course once mixed with synth... that wicked dash of electronica... I was then fully obsessed. But like most things in Los Angeles... my obsession only lasted for a very intense four weeks. After playing the hell out of SFR.. their album collected dust and remained unplayed on my itunes/ipod... well, until tonight. It's nice to revisit our once passionate love affair.
