I was never a fan of the mega love songs.. yknow those songs. The Top 40 super ballads...
My taste for songs of love have always skewed to lesser known... and from the sound of most of them - a thread of sadness is usually stitched in the melodies. This doesn't mean I have a sad outlook on love and relationships.... I just prefer lyrics that make me think... or even instrumentals that move me.. or remind me of emotions I've felt... both good and bad.
This is a great one from Alexi Murdoch.
Enjoy.
My idea of a perfect love song changes practically everyday. Being the music nerd and weirdo that I am -- if you are the object of my desire, I will probably make you a mixtape that is 1) a little cheesy, 2) eclectic. Very eclectic.
I can probably send you a mix sprinkled with some classics like Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Otis Redding, etc. Dig into the crate for some old Zero 7, Jazzanova, Rae & Christian - hit up some indie by Feist, Cat Power and the Decemberists... some world classics by Fela Kuti, Cesaria Evora.. or even songs sung by Japanese children ( a language that you nor I can understand, maybe) but I added it to our "love mixape" just because thought it sounded pretty and they could very well be singing about carrots. But who cares? It sounds pretty, you* probably make me feel pretty...so alas, its in the mixtape I made for you. I love songs from across the globe especially studying different styles of music every day of my life... I can probably tell you I love you* so many different ways without really saying it. ( I* love that I am talking in first person to a hypothetical "you")
Anyway, Schneider TM is from Germany and Erlend Oye is from Norway* (Thanks, George! :) . Its difficult to think of minimal dub, IDM stuff as anything close to romantic - but alas, I found something cute, happy and probably a track I will one day use for that mixtape to my one and only.
Enjoy
